Second National Security Forum at RAU
On November 3-5, RAU hosted the Second International Research Forum “National Security Issues in the Context of Globalization and Integration Processes (Interdisciplinary Aspects)”. It was organized in connection with the 25th anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Armenia and the approaching 20th anniversary of RAU. The Forum took place through the support of The Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund.
The event drew participants from leading educational institutions and organizations with expertise in political science, law, international relations and economics.
During the forum days they discussed a wide range of issues concerning global and regional security, its social, economic, military and humanitarian aspects; as well as the implications of strategic culture practice.
RAU rector Mr. Armen Darbinyan greeted the guests and participants of the forum during the opening session. He said that in the context of the present geopolitical situation and the way Armenia has been developing for the past years the issue of national security is crucial when building the concept for Armenia’s future. We can and we should become the communication and value transmission point from West to East and from East to West”, he added. We should preserve and develop our identity and be the progress creator”.
He assigned the major role in preserving and developing the national identity to the independent Armenia: “Today we, the citizens of an independent country, are to prosper and find our own key to social and national success”.
The Vice-rector for Science, Mr. Parkev Avetisyan, in his turn addressed the issue of globalization and security. He said that as a dominant world trend, globalization potentially holds new risks and challenges for international and local security. He also emphasized the role of education system as a basis for a country’s well-being and national security in strategic terms.
Mr. Hovhaness Sarkisyan, head of the Department of Political Science, said that the Russian-Armenian University has become a traditional platform to discuss current issues and exchange experience related to the national security. He further elaborated: “National security cannot be narrowed down to certain activities of government bodies. The complexity of the issue is much more diverse. To maintain national security means to minimize all the risks in completely different fields”.
