Workshop 'Measuring Migration in Armenia: Theory and Models'

Within the activities of the research group on the migration processes in Armenia, the first international workshop "Measuring Migration in Armenia: Theory and Models" took place on October 5, 2017 at RAU. Workshop participants included representatives of the PROMIG project ("Promoting Migration Studies in Higher Education"): project coordinator, Tbilisi State University after Javakhishvili, colleagues and students from RAU and YSU.

RAU Vice-rector for Science Prof. Pargev Avetisyan greeted the initiative of the research group, highlighting the relevance of the issues brought up.

During the workshop, the speakers presented various models for assessing the economic consequences of migration for sending countries in terms of the problem of highly skilled labor emigration, the problems of private foreign transfers in the Armenian economy, the real business cycle models taking into account labor migration, and also discussed possible social consequences and socio-psychological characteristics of modern migration processes.

In an active discussion, the group proposed new ideas for the development of the presented models.

It should be noted that the research group on the study of migration processes in Armenia was established within the framework of the Erasmus + PROMIG project ("Promoting Migration Studies in Higher Education"). The main goal of the group is to analyze the most relevant aspects of current migration processes in Armenia.
