In February 2017, the ISFiT (International Student Festival in Trondheim) took place in Norway. The students of the Russian-Armenian University (RAU) had the chance to contribute to the biggest student multi-cultural festival as well: Tamara Harutunyan and Zara Yeremyan, third-year students in Phychology, and Zhanna Hovhannisyan, a first-year student in Management, participated in ISFiT 2017.

The festival theme changes every time, but it is always related to the social and political issues of the world agenda. This year the festival was entitled “Discrimination, why”?
450 students from all over the world have joined the festival to enter the global conversation. The participants were divided into 18 groups to discuss discrimination in health care, law, policy, sports, family, and religion. Each group had workshop leaders who helped the participants to get rolling. RAU students have done their bit in the following thematic groups: The Refugee Crisis and Emigration, Discrimination in Family and Gender Roles, Law and Politics.
Every day we addressed the most pressing issues on the agenda via debates, group activities, brainstorming and games. Some of the participating students were refugees themselves and told their stories, others worked in refugee camps or interacted with refugees and shared their experience”, said Tamara Harutunyan.
Shirin Ebadi, an Iranian human rights activist, and Kate Gilmore, Deputy High Commissioner for Human Rights of the United Nations among other outstanding figures, attended the event as guest speakers.

Tamara Harutunyan also mentioned that the festival became a common ground for the young people: positive team spirit made everybody feel a part of something big. She said the discussions were not abstract, and she was determined to continue with what she had started during the festival.
The International Student Festival in Trondheim (ISFiT) is the world’s largest thematic student festival, going back to 1990. Organized every other year, the festival brings together young people from more than one hundred countries for ten days of dialogue, cultural events and workshops.
