UN Days in Armenia: RAU hosts guest speaker from UNFPA

Yerevan, October 30. In the scope of UN Days in Armenia Department of International Cooperation of RAU hosts guest speaker from UNFPA, Mr. Mher Manukyan.

The issue of migration and demographic changes in Armenia were the main topics of the discussion. Mr. Manukyan made a short presentation on levels of migration, birth rates, public health and unemployment.

“Unfortunately, many people migrate from Armenia mainly because of quite high unemployment rates. As a result birth rates have dropped drastically over the several years. Such situation bears many hazards both for the economy and sustainable development of the country. Nevertheless, there is always a way out and hope, and that hope is the youth of Armenia.”

UN has successfully done different development programs in Armenia, engaging hundreds of volunteers and students, who are not indifferent towards the future of their country.

In the end, Mr. Manukyan encouraged students to participate in different volunteering programs, thus contributing to the development of Armenia.

“UN has been a long time partner for our university and we have many programs of internships, conferences and seminars, organized with various UN agency. Ever since we opened the UN corner at RAU, where students can find books and publications of UN, such meetings happen quite frequently.” – said Head of Department of International Cooperation, Suzanna Shamakhyan.
